boys will be boys

How many times have I heard that?  But, it’s true.  They will.  And because I have two of my own, I’m perfectly fine with that!  These brothers were my last session in Memphis, and they were so funny.  They reminded me of my boys, and we had a good time.  I must admit that my favorite images are probably the last two.  I love how real-life they are.  Boys wrestle . . . and they love their mommies.  It’s just the way it is.  That last one melts my heart.  It was an outtake, and I know mom didn’t plan to be involved in the session.  I saw it out of the corner of my eye and clicked, and I’m so glad I did.  It’s precious.

Thanks, guys, for such a fun time!  I think you’re pretty cool!

love this family!

The Monroes have a special place in my heart because we did life together for several years when we lived in Memphis.  We went to church together, and we were in the same small group, too.  That means that we (and a bunch of other couples) went to their house every week to hang out and study the Bible together.  We all had kids, and at one point, I think there were more kids than adults!  These boys and my boys kind of grew up together during that time, and I love them like my own.  Their family meant so much to us then, and they still do now.  When we got ready to move to Nashville to help start a new church, they were so supportive of us – which really meant the world at the time.  They drove over from Memphis to come to our first Sunday morning service, and they consistently encourage us.  It’s always fun to see them, and the next time I see their nine-year-old (ack! . . . can he really be that old?!?!?!), I’m going to put a brick on his head to keep him from getting any taller!  Thanks, guys, for the opportunity to photograph your family once again, and I hope you know how great we think you are!

I got all nostalgic editing this session because it brought back memories of when my boys were these ages {sniff, sniff}.  Between sessions and editing, I’m short on time these days.  I just thought I’d put a few sneak peeks up for their mama and daddy!  Thanks for the opportunity to photograph your sweet boys!

Meet my friend, Melanie.  I first met her about 10 years ago when our husbands attended seminary together.  There are so many things I love about her, and it was a lot of fun to see her again after such a long time!  Among her many, many talents, she’s a gifted singer/songwriter.  She’s working on an album and needed some photographs for the artwork.  Here are a few favorites . . .

The thing you should know about Melanie is that her heart is just as beautiful as what you can see in these images.  AND you should know that she’s an AMAZING wife & mother to four precious children.  I’m thrilled to see her using her gift of music to bless others.  I’ll be sure to let you all know when her album is all finished and released so you can check it out!

it’s the little things in life

Fall is in the air today in Nashville!!!  I love this time of year.  Here are a few random pictures I snapped yesterday around the house.  The leaves are turning, the pumpkins are on the front porch, I’m decorating my house with beautiful, natural foliage from my yard, my in-laws just brought us a huge load of wood for the fireplace & I bought some pretty fall-colored flowers to make little bouquets to go all around the house.

I just got back home from a fun session with a great family at Percy Warner Park.  It was a little chilly, but we had a good time (and the leaves are beautiful there)!  If you’re in Nashville, you should definitely drive over there this weekend.

another memphis princess

This sweet girl was shy for about 3.5 seconds, and then it was like we were BFF.  At one point, she squealed, “This is fun!” (which is, of course, one of the biggest compliments I could ever receive!).  And let me tell you . . . this little lady is FAST.  To say that she gave me a run for my money would be an understatement!  But, I loved that she was having a good time, and I think these images will melt her mama’s heart.  {They did mine.}

princesses and castles

I had a great time with some wonderful families at Rhodes College in Memphis last weekend!  My friend, Elissa, and I drove over Friday morning for a whirlwind trip that included seven sessions, an amazing dinner at the Bar-B-Que Shop in Midtown & lots of Starbucks!  It was fun to show Elissa around since she’d never spent any time in Memphis before, and I enjoyed driving down all those familiar roads again.  Nashville is definitely home now, but Memphis will always have a special place in my heart.  So, without further ado, here are the first two princesses I photographed (quite fitting since all the kids kept calling the buildings at Rhodes “castles”)!  Aren’t they adorable?

Between the Memphis sessions and the ones I came back to here, I’m up to my eyeballs in editing!  I’ll post more sneak peeks as soon as I get done with them.  Thanks to all my old and new Memphis friends for the opportunity to photograph your families and little ones!

update on memphis sessions

I have TWO openings available this weekend in Memphis.  They’re both on Saturday – one @ 3 PM & the other @ 4 PM.  They’re available on a first-come, first-served basis, so let me know ASAP (click on “contact” above) if you’re interested in snagging one of them!  Click here for more information.

still here . . .

It’s been a while, but I’m still here . . . just a little preoccupied these days.  I’ve been super busy with the normal everyday stuff (like everybody else), but I’ve also had a lot of new things swirling around in my head.  I haven’t quite been able to put it all into words (and I still can’t), but if you want a sneak peek into my crazy brain, you can start here.

And then go here and here.

And then you can read this book. And then this one.

That should keep you pretty busy for a while.  I would love to elaborate on all of those – and I will sometime – but right now my heart and my mind are still sorting through all of it.  Those blogs will completely knock your socks off (read them like a book – from the oldest post to the newest).  And those books are completely rocking my world.  So, all that to say . . . there will be more discussion on those to come.  I just wanted to let you know why I’ve been MIA.

As far as photography stuff goes, I’m in the middle of the crazy fall rush . . . and loving it.  I’m heading to Memphis this weekend (finally) to do some sessions with old & new friends there.  Then I’ll hit the ground running again with local sessions.  And because I know we all despise a post with no pictures (right?!?!), let me introduce you to my brother-in-law and soon-to-be sister-in-law (that’s an awful lot of hyphens!).  They are getting married in April, and I’m sooooooo excited for them!  I would want to be Leslie’s friend even if we weren’t married to brothers, so it’s just icing on the cake that we’ll officially be family soon!
