Saturdays are for Picnics

Yesterday I provided photography services for the 2008 MARS Petcare company picnic.  This fabulous event was held at Camp Widjiwagan, which is such a fun place!  There were tons of activities for the employees and their families, and everyone seemed to have a great time.  There were lots of grown-ups there, and I took many, many pictures of them, too.  BUT . . . I’m always so drawn to the kids [and these people had some really beautiful, fun kids!].  Every time I photograph an event like this or even a wedding, it reminds me that my heart is definitely attached to children’s portraiture.  I just love interacting with them and playing :) .  I took lots and lots of pictures, but these are some that stood out to me.  I was close to the ice cream freezer much of the time, so there were lots of messy, chocolate-y grins!

If you or your company are ever in need of event photography, please feel free to contact me for more information.  I love shooting these kinds of things and parties, too!

my baby

Cole was sick over the weekend.  He had strep . . . again . . . for the third time this year.  He’s much better now, though, and back at school today.  He fell asleep on the couch Friday night just as we were about to eat dinner out on the back porch, and I just had to grab my camera.  Don’t little ones look so sweet when they’re sleeping?  There’s just something about it that melts my heart.  They look so peaceful and innocent and pure.  His little cheeks were pink because of the fever, and I just wanted to scoop him up and hold him the rest of the night.  When my kids are sick, it makes me slow down and give them my full attention and reminds me of what’s most important in my life.  I’m thankful for moments like that, and I’m glad our little Cole is better!

girls, girls, girls

I got to spend some time with these little princesses this morning!  I met up with them at their home, and we talked a lot about every Disney princess you can think of!  The oldest sister will be four soon, so we discussed birthday plans, too, which of course include the Disney princesses – all of them :) .  I think they are just as pretty as they can be, and I hope that they will grow up being the very best of friends.  Their mom is great, and I discovered this morning that she, too, is a Samford alumni . . . go Bulldogs!  These are a few I pulled this afternoon so mom and dad can have a little sneak peek.

I couldn’t decide between black & white or color on this last one.  When I first began shooting professionally, I thought I would primarily be known as a black & white photographer.  For some reason, though, I’ve become obessessed with color!  I have some clients who prefer black & white portraits, though, and I’m always happy to comply :) .

I hope you all have a great weekend.  Mine will be spent at home enjoying the great weather and loving on my sick baby five-year-old who protests me calling him my baby now.  I don’t care though . . . I’m his mama, and I’ll call him my baby as long as I want! Until next week . . .

sisters

There’s something *extra* special about the relationship between sisters.  {I know because I have one.}  And I love her so much.  I felt honored to spend some time with these girls Tuesday because it was the youngest one’s 3rd birthday!!!  She’s such a big girl now!  The thing I loved most about my time with them was learning more about their personalities.  The older one was all about her Barbie while the birthday girl was more interested in searching for sticks and rocks!  They are both so precious, and I had a great time with them.  I’m not done editing, but these are a few early favorites . . .

i *love* lucy

This is my friend, Lucy.  Isn’t she beautiful?  I really like this picture of her.  We met a little over a year ago and quickly became good friends.  We’ve had many conversations at Starbucks over coffee, and she always makes fun of my complicated order . . . what’s so difficult about a “grande, nonfat, one-pump-raspberry, with whip mocha” ??????  Lucy is a fabulous nurse who works in the ER at Vanderbilt.  I respect her work because I ABSOLUTELY could NOT do what she does.  I get light-headed and dizzy just walking into a hospital.  There’s no way I could work in the medical profession.  She actually just started back to school to become a nurse practitioner.  I know she’ll be great at it, too, and I’m thankful for her friendship.  I recently had the privilege of photographing her and her family (husband – we love him, too!, mom, dad, and siblings).  I’ll post some family photos soon, but I just loved this one and wanted to share it.  I hope you all have a good weekend!
